The sun is responsible for many different energy sources here on Earth in some way. The sun created coal a fossil fuel millions of years ago when prehistoric plants took their energy from the sun. These plants then became part of a swamp releasing all their energy into it. Then, after millions of years the swamp was compressed, turning this energy into coal, oil, and gas. Biomass also was created because the sun has enough energy to feed the plants that start a chain process. Food energy is again also created I this way weather animal or vegtable this is because the vegtable matter absorbs the suns energy through photosynthesis animals then absorb this energy from the original plant and then from each other all the way up the food chain . Wind is solar powered because it is caused from the sun which moves the earths weather systems creating the wind. So as long as the sun exists the weather systems, it keep on creating wind. Waves are powered by the moon and the gravitational force that the moon exerts on the earth pulls the tides in and out as it goes through its cycles. However the moon is kept in orbit around the earth by its gravitational pull from by the sun. Flowing water is affected by the sun because if the sun was not there all the water would just freeze.

Efforts toward consuming less energy including creating appliances that are more energy efficient, insulating buildings, increasing the mechanical efficiency of engines, designing vehicles that get more miles to the gallon, and shifting appliance usage to non-peak load times.
